About James G. Knipe III

For more than two decades, James “Jim” G. Knipe III has represented Louisiana families and individuals during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Whether defending clients against serious criminal charges or helping them recover after life-changing injuries, Jim brings steady judgment, courtroom experience, and personal attention to every case. As founder of Knipe Law Firm, he brings more than two decades of criminal defense and personal injury experience to a smaller, client-focused practice where clients work directly with the attorney responsible for their case.
A Baton Rouge native, Jim understands the people, courts, and communities he serves.
Over the past 22 years, Jim has handled state, municipal, and federal criminal defense matters, as well as personal injury claims. His criminal defense experience spans a wide range of cases, including DWI, felony grade offenses, misdemeanors, driver’s license issues, homicide charges, and large-quantity narcotics prosecutions.
Jim is a graduate of Louisiana State University and the Southern University Law Center. He has tried cases in courtrooms across Louisiana and argued before the Louisiana Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and filed applications to the United States Supreme Court. In 2026, he opened Knipe Law Firm to give clients direct access to the attorney responsible for their case - from the first conversation through final resolution.
Outside the office, Jim lives in Baton Rouge with his wife, Candice, and their three children.
